Week of April 16th, 2012

Expository Writing

We will not be reading a story. We will be doing the OLSAT test on Monday and Tuesday. During the week we will also be focusing on our animal reports. We will use the information that the students gathered about the animal they chose and write a five paragraph essay. They will share their essays with the class along with their posters.

Math

We are working on place value.

Animal Poster

The animal posters are due on Wed., April 18th. Thank you for your help at home with this project. The poster that have been turned in look great! They will all be hanging in the hall for Open House.

Student of the Week

Our special student was Alexa. She has one older sister. A few of her favorite things are the color lime green, bunnies, waffles, the book The Great Hamster Massacre, and gymnastics. At school Alexa likes gym and at home she likes to read. When Alexa grows up she would like to be a vet.

Science

We are working on the food groups. We are exploring the healthy foods we should be including in our daily diets. Thank you for helping your child find something from the meat group. In the days ahead I will be asking them to find a picture of something from the vegetable, fruit, and grain groups.

In science we are also beginning our butterfly unit. The caterpillars arrived this week. They are growing fast! The children are keeping journals which you will be able to see at Open House. It is really fun watching the changes that take place.
