Week of February 20, 2012

Reading

We will be reading a nonfiction story that examines the physical characteristics, life cycle and natural habitat of various types of ants.

The comprehension strategies we will concentrate on will be organizing and questioning.

The vocabulary words are antennae, cocoons, colonies, fungus, larvae, tunnels, parasol, and aphids.

Phonics skills will cover words ending with nd, nt, ng, mp, and nk. We will also look at adding endings to nouns (-s, -es, -ies).

Math

Two-dimensional figures can be compared, sorted, and classified according to their geometric properties and can be moved in pace or space. In Chapter 15 we will cover plane figures and spatial space. We will identify, sort, and combine plane figures and learn about symmetry and congruent figures.

Student of the Week

Our special student was Tom. A few of his favorite things are the color orange, cats, rice, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and baseball. At school Tom likes art, gym and cursive. At home hi likes to play the DS, roller blade and play catch. When Tom grows up he would like to be a baseball player.

Valentine's Party

Our last party of the year was great. The children had a wonderful time. Thank you to Mrs. Repole, Mrs. Daly, Mrs. Coonrod, Mrs. Gapuz and those who donated treats, drinks and supplies.
