The children collected $1,141.93 to donate to the people in Japan. The money will be given to the Red Cross and sent to Japan. Thank you all for your generosity.

Reading
When we return from Spring Break our story will be Carousel.
In phonics we will cover the sound of y at the end of longer words. We will also talk about the prefix -un.
Our comprehension strategy will be making judgements.
The vocabulary words will be: angry, fussed, groaned, grumbled, grumpily, promised, frothy, tutu, mane, and trot.
In grammar lessons we will discuss past tense of verbs.

Spring Break
The break begins Friday after school and we return on Monday, April 4th. The children have Tuesday, April 5th off because it is an Institute Day for the teachers. It was scheduled this way because Tuesday is an election day and our building is a polling place. This allows us to avoid having the children present while strangers are walking around the building.
Animal UnitAll of you should have seen the letters regarding the animal unit we will be starting upon our return from Spring Break. Your child has been assigned either a rain forest, ocean or desert habitat. They are to choose an animal found in that habitat to learn about. Please assist your child by helping them research their animal. The paper that was sent home was to help you get started taking notes on important facts about the animal. You can use any paper you want, this was just a suggestion. The children will use the notes they take to put together a 5 paragraph paper on their animal. This paper will be done in school.
After break I will send home information about the poster the children will be required to make. They will make the poster at home. I will give you specific instructions regarding size and content.
