Week of February 28th, 2011

Reading

We will have our theme review for "Amazing Animals". We will be comparing fiction and non-fiction stories about dinosaurs. Many of the children will remember the Tomie dePaola selection from last year when he was one of the authors of the month.

The comprehension strategy we will focus on is questioning.

Our vocabulary words are: disaster, earthquake, erupting, lava, pitch, volcano, allergic, rumbling.

The phonics skills will cover words with nd, nt, mp, ng, and nk. We will review vowel pairs oa and ow.

The grammar lessons will focus on singular possessive nouns and plural possessive nouns.

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday. For those of you who have conferences scheduled for Monday evening you will be able to see your child's grades at the time of your conference.

Conferences

I will see most of you on either Monday or Wednesday evening. Please do your best to be on time. I am schedule every 15 minutes so we will have to stay on schedule.

There is no school on Friday, March 4th or Monday, March 7th. Enjoy the extra long weekend. Hopefully we will have some warmer weather to allow the kids to get out and play.

Math

We will take the chapter test on chapter 14 on Monday. In chapter 15 we will work on plane figures and spatial sense.

Student of the Week

Paulina was our special student. A few of her favorite things are the color pink, puppies, apples, pasta, the book Green Eggs and Ham, swimming, reading, math, homework, cleaning and playing. Paulina can speak polish and play the piano. She shows she is a friend by being friendly and fair. When Paulina grows up she wants to be an actress. Paulina gave each of her friends a packet of flower seeds to plant this spring.
